Saturday Share: Explore • Dream • Discover

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
- Mark Twain -

Happy Saturday, my dear scrappy friends! And welcome back to another week of Saturday Share.

This week's layout is a bit special, because it has no story. The photo for this layout was taken a few years back in Sydney, when I was at Bondi Beach and they were having this Sculpture by the Sea Exhibition. I really liked and enjoyed the exhibition, but I did not get to see all of the art pieces on displayed because it was freezing cold, and my camera just ran out of battery!

Before my camera died, I managed to capture this piece by Kathy Allam, a Happy Floating Dream Cloud made entirely of colorful children's toys. It is so beautiful, I decided to have it print out, even though I have no idea what to do with the photo.

Fast forward 2 years, I have finally decided to scrapbook the photo, without a story, but with one of my favorite quotes.

The quote by Mark Twain at the beginning of this post is one of my favorites, but it is too long and impossible to squeeze every word on my layout, so I decided to use only the last part of the quote, "Explore. Dream. Discover."

A little embellishing going diagonal from top left to bottom right, and my layout is done!

Love this cluster!

The sketch for this layout is based on Stuck?! Sketches April 1st Challenge. And I am also submitting this layout for Picture This! April 1st Challenge (1 Photo + Corners + Splatters).

And this is me trying to multitask on a Saturday morning.

That is all for today. Thank you for stopping by, and have a lovely weekend.

Special Edition: Let's Get Sketchy Design Team Call

Hello, everyone!

This irregular blog post is a special announcement on the Design Team Call of Let's Get Sketchy. It's my second time applying for their DT call, I hope I can get the chance to join all the lovely ladies on board.

They have come up with two sketches for the DT call challenge, and I have chosen the one shown below.

This is absolutely NOT my usual scrapbooking style, but oh my, the fun I had playing with this sketch. And I DO love the layout I did for this, I think it's awesome. :">

I ♥ the color combo that I have chosen for this layout, a neutral kraft background with pops of reds and yellows.

Tuck in!

I was going to title this layout 'Good Food, Great Company', but that really sounded quite bored and lame. Then I remembered this phrase, tuck in. Had to Google search to make sure it has the right meaning. :p

Hello there, yummy food!
Finally get to use the vellum stitched pocket by Amy Tangerine
Actually, we didn't have any coffee that day. :p
That is all for today. If you are interested in being part of LGS Design Team, head over to their blog, and read about all the T&C there. Good luck, everyone!

I may not be there yet, but I am closer than I was yesterday.

Saturday Share: 63rd Birthday

Hello, dear friends! Happy Saturday, and welcome to another week of Saturday Share.

This week's layout is of my father's birthday 2 years ago. It was just a simple celebration at home, but with his favorite grandchildren all by his side, I think one couldn't ask for more.

When I first saw this colorful numbers patterned paper by Becky Higgins, I knew I would want to use it on a birthday layout. I paired it with another same pattern but kinda tone-on-tone paper of the same collection to bring the focus onto the main cluster of the layout.

I added another red polka dot patterned paper and outlined the edges with a black pen. The chipboard letter stickers is my current favorite. I have used that on my previous layout, Fairy Tale Like too.

I only added a little bit embellishments on this layout, since the background paper itself is quite busy.

The glitter 'Celebrate' letter stickers were a last minute addition. Usually I wouldn't use such glittery and colorful embellishments on a manly layout, but I think the glittery pastel matches with the colorful background paper. Some washi and some stickers, a happy layout is done!

I am currently making a scrapbook album for my family. I know they do not know how to appreciate it (yet!), but I believe there will be a day that these precious memories that are captured and scrapbooked will be treasured. Until the day comes, I will keep on being the memory keepers for my family, and hopefully someday, for the family of my own.

That is all for today! Leave me some love if you like my layout, I really do appreciate that.

Thank you for stopping by and have a lovely weekend!

Time is precious. Waste it wisely.   ;)

Planner Nerd Wednesday: Planner Inserts

WARNING: THIS IS ONE LONG, LONG POST! SO, GO GRAB A CUP OF COFFEE (OR IN MY CASE, GREEN TEA), SIT BACK AND ENJOY.

Hello, dear friends! Today I will be sharing some photos of my planner inserts.

I caught this planner-fever via Instagram, where a lot of people share their planner addiction, mostly beautifully decorated or drawn, and I thought, 'I want one too!' So, that was how this all started.

I don't own any fancy planner, all I have got are an A5 sized planner (made in China, totally affordable), and a personal sized which my sister gave to me. I absolutely love the knock off version A5 planner, and when I first bought it, I took it out everyday and stared at it ('cause still quite clueless what I should be doing with a planner back then hahaha)

I love the tuck-in clasp instead of magnetic clasp like most of the planners I saw online

I use the A5 for my daily journaling and weekly planning. I have been using the planner since November 2014, and instead of buying or printing the planner inserts, I decorate and 'design' my own version. To me, that is part of the fun (although quite tiring sometimes).

It all started with simple elements, only post-it notes, page markers and some stampings.

These lined planner inserts came with the planner
Then I found my old stash of long forgotten sticker sheets, and started adding stickers all over the place. And I bought quite a lot of stickers too, until I told myself I need to stop buying unless I have used up all the old ones. I don't quite fancy the lined planner inserts, so I bought a pack of crisp white blank planner inserts, and I really love decorating them each week (Okay, that was a lie. I don't enjoy decorating them ALL the time, just most of the time).

My A5 Planner is used for daily journaling and weekly planning. And I love adding quotes I found online in them.

Then I dug out my stash of kawaii mini memo pads, which I have quite a few because I was an avid kawaii swappers a few years back. And they really brighten up my dull planner inserts, look!

My favorite Sentimental Circus!!

I even fuzzy cut the memo sheet just for a larger space to squeeze in my 'Weekend To Do' List!

And then, I bought a Happie Planner Kit from Happie Scrappie Sam Sam, because her kits are just too adorable!! And she is one of the reasons I fell into this planner-craze.

My favorite quotes thus far

How can you not love all the cute animal themed accessories from the November Happie Planner Kit?!

During the Christmas week, I pulled my stash of Christmas themed scrapbook supplies and tried to use them all on that week's inserts.

A 'meh' kind of inserts, not my absolute favorite

A boyfriend. But all I have got on Christmas day was a cockroach in toilet at 2 o'clock in the morning *cries*

These are most of my planner inserts for the last 2 months of 2014. A few weeks' inserts are missing because they aren't pretty enough to be showcased here ahahaha I do make substandard planner inserts from time to time, especially when I am late on the week (I usually decorate the planner insert a week before) or not in the mood.

And that is all for my first post on my planner. I think there will be more posts coming, but I am limiting to one post or two per month, because there really isn't much to blog about my planner. However, if you would like to get a more up-to-date update of my planner, do follow my Instagram account (ID: peifang_alice). I usually post my planner inserts (or a sneak peak of it) when I am done decorating them.

If you are a planner addict with an Instagram account or blog, do comment on my post and I will be sure to check out your account!

Alright, have a lovely day! *wink*

Saturday Share: Parade @ Disneyland

Hello, darlings! Happy Saturday! *wink*

A tad bit late with my post this week. I just finished this layout and had it photographed around noon, and now trying to write a post and upload it before lunch.

I actually tried to scrapbook this layout last weekend, but I was not in a crafty mood, and I kinda had some 'bottleneck' with it, so I left it on my desk. I posted a photo on Instagram stating my stalled progress with the layout, and a friend (which is not a crafter) gave me some advice, which is quite useful, but then I did not have the time to complete the layout over the week, so this is me rushing the layout to get it done, photographed and blogged in one shot.

Anyway, back to the layout. These photos were taken during my visit to Disneyland in Paris on last September. I am not much into theme parks' rides (unless I am with a bunch of crazy daredevil friends), though I always like Mickey Mouse. Vintage style good ol' Mickey.

The whole trip was kinda not-so-exciting for me (exclude the I-have-to-buy-all-these craze I had in their souvenir shops), until the Parade started! I don't know if they have a name for the Parade, but it is the time all the characters and dancers will be out on their streets, dancing and parading. It really got me all excited, and it did make me feel like a kid again. Totally magical! Totally excited! And I was in a dilemma of whether I should be enjoying the parade or snapping away with my camera hahaha

I did get a few nice photos of the parade, and I am glad I did. Every time I look back at these photos, I remember the excitement I felt during the parade, and it is totally magical! I guess that is the magic of Disneyland, it will bring out the kid in all of us, regardless of our age. =) Needless to say, these photos are totally scrapbook-worthy and I just have to get them on a layout.

With these many photos, I was having a hard time coming up with a sketch that will fit nicely. I have taken out these photos more times than I can remember, trying to scrapbook them, and nothing seems to work. But the sketch from My Scraps & More Sketch #97 makes scrapbooking so many photos seems like an easy task LOL And so, my layout for this special memory is based on this sketch.

Solid cardstock is much better than a busy patterned background for this layout

That glitter foam letter stickers ♥♥♥

Bottom

I misted the white cardstock with Mustard Color Shine by Heidi Swapp, and I really like the background, though it's mostly covered up by the photos and titles. You can still see them peeking out subtlety through the vellum though, and I love it!

Sorry for such long post, I did not know I babbled this much until I have done writing.
>.<

Just Chillin'

Hey there, happy Saturday!

Popping up for a quick post on a simple layout I made. But first, let's have a look at the doodle I did for this layout.

Hello, Panda!

I know the panda looks slightly out of shape, but this was my first try on doodling. Hopefully I can do better next time.

This layout is for another item that I crossed off on my bucket list, item #34, see panda(s)! I always thought I would have to travel to China to get a glimpse of these cute, fluffy, black and white, one of a kind national treasure. But on mid of this year, a pair of these cuties were brought to our very own National Zoo! That does save me a lot of money LOL

So, one fine day, my girlfriends decided to go pay the pandas a visit, and I get to capture this cool photo of the panda chillin' at their park/mansion.

And for the whole 30 minutes that we were in there, all the pair does was just that, chilling/sleeping. They didn't move an inch for 30 minutes, which makes me wonder, are they real? (LOL just kidding!)

The layout is very simple, and I used only a few colors. Few shades of greens, cream and some yellow. And of course, black and white.

Patterned papers that I used on the layout

Almost 2/3 of the layout was left blank, intentionally. As I've mentioned, trying to keep it simple. Plus, the green patterned paper that I used at the bottom is quite busy, don't want the whole layout to go crazy and makes you go dizzy.

I have crossed off 23 items on the list so far. There are a few more that I think I can accomplish on the coming year, if I am determined (eg. learn to juggle, archery, to do a split).

I have replaced a few items with new ones to better suit my current wants and needs. The first list that I did, some of the items are not really what I wanted, but it was on others' lists, so I kinda copied them and placed in my own list. So after two years and knowing myself better, I removed them and try to replace them with new items. The list might change again, or get longer, but right now, these items on the list are what I really wanted to try, and hopefully I can achieve them before I hit 30.

So, this is my boring and not-so-exciting bucket list. December is here, and it's about time for another round of New Year Resolutions planning. I did not do well on this year's resolutions (did I even make one this year? LOL), but I am much more determined to do better next year. I have started writing and planning since last week, but there is still a lot more fine-tuning to do for the plans and goals to be achieved effectively. I will share more when I am finally done with the planning, hopefully by end of this month. =)

Thank you for stopping by. Have a great week!

      Wacky Duo

Hello, long abandoned blog! And happy Sunday, dear readers.

(Skip the next 2 paragraphs if you're not interested with my excuses for being away)

Sorry for being away for so long, but this time I have a few very good reasons for being absent LOL I was away for vacation for almost 2 weeks in September, and when I came back, I started working on a new job. Then I switched from scrapbooking to reading. I just bought too many books and had to finish a few of them so I can buy more =p

I am still in the process of adapting to my new work and planning out my free time because I have too many hobbies, and trying to juggle between them makes me accomplish NOTHING at all, which is quite frustrating. Then, I decided to join the planner-craze. I wanted to DIY my own planner, and that has taken up most of my nights these days because I am still trying to find a format that fits my needs. Scrapbooking, reading, online courses, planner decorating, hanging out with friends, spending time with family, catching up with all my favorite TV shows and among other things. Trying to fit all these on a 2 days weekend, that is quite impossible. Or is it just me with the time management issue? 26 and still have no idea how to manage my time, am I the only one? *hopefully not*

So, back to this layout that I did. It was supposed to be blogged and posted on my social media last weekend for my sister's birthday, but you know me, BIG procrastinator.

I was on a creative rut but I really wanted to push myself to create something, so I used the sketch from Come On Get Crafty October Sketch Challenge, which is a fairly simple and minimalist sketch.

I have this patterned paper from My Mind's Eye for a while now, and I have difficulty using the A side, but the B side is a simple white and gray chevron and that is perfect as a background. Adding some red and green and yellow to make it pops, with the wacky photo of my sister and her husband, voila, a layout is done! As simple as ABC, but it still took me a very long time because I was watching some dramas while making the layout >.<

      Hello, wacky duo!

Love the Title and the Photo Frame!

And also the patterned paper by Amy Tangerine in the frame

      Say CHEESE

      Bonding

Good morning and happy Sunday, ladies and gents!

Did I ever mention how much I love non-working Saturday? Waking up on these Saturdays, with simple breakfast and some crafty inspiration, pure bliss. I love to watch Tracy's process video, they are quite addictive (LOL) and a great way to kick start my crafty side. I watched this yesterday, and then I have this sudden urge to make pretty layouts!

As usual, I browsed through all the challenges that I've bookmarked. Quite a number of simple and easy-to-follow sketches, and then there's one that caught my eyes, cause I told myself, that is one crazy sketch! Crazy, because that's not my usual style. But then, I thought of the word 'challenge' and decided I really should get out of my comfort zone. And with the Sizzlin' Summer '14 Sketch 03 by Scrapbook Challenges, I started gathering supplies and a lot of patterned papers for the very challenging background.

I did not take photo of my background cluster with my camera, but I just posted the one I took with my phone, so drop by my Instagram to check it out. That background cluster took me 45 minutes to assemble, and I used a lot of patterned papers, washi tapes and some border stickers.

The rest of the process, adding the photo, title and embellishments probably took another 30 to 40 minutes. The end result, a happy looking layout.

I would love to add stitching on the background, but I do not have a sewing machine, and hand stitching them would probably take forever, so I just gave up on that idea. I really love the look of machine stitch on layouts though.

I love the contrast between the colorful elements and the black elements, and I added the black clouds and trees transparencies on the top and bottom corners to make the layout pops.

My nephews and niece's initial. Love these apple wooden tokens that my sis bought for me.

These embellishments are from OhDeerMe June kit by Freckled Fawn. Thinking of getting their August kit too, cause it looks awesome!

And lastly, some close ups of the background cluster.

I'm really glad I took on this challenge. Even though it is quite time consuming because of the complicated background cluster, but it's a really great way to put together a lot of patterned papers and different elements on a layout. Will I try this sketch again? Definitely yes!

Thank you for stopping by, and any comments are appreciated. If you like my layouts, do follow my blog and Instagram. Have a great day!
